I decided
that we wouldn’t use the buses as Shafquat told me that it would cost us $70 a
day. I thought that would be a hefty price to pay for a two mile trip back and
forth to the hospital. We decided to walk as it was so nice outside and the
route is rather beautiful. Once off the main road, we found some bike rickshaws
and decided to hop in (two at a time) for the rest of the way to the hospital.
It was a fun experience for all of us. The price was around 25 cents (US) for
each rickshaw.
Once at the hospital, we went directly to Shafquat’s office. He had chairs arranged for us and we introduced him to the group. He had sent Dr. Shankar Man Rai (our surgical outreach director from Nepal in Dhaka for further training) and another registrar to the airport to see if they had any luck with the boxes, while he worked on the phone at his end.
