From Sheila Wolfson, Interplast coordinator:
Many of the 100 or so patients we triaged on our clinic day traveled down the mountain to be seen by our team of 14 doctors, nurses and translators. Although we had been told by our hosts that we would see many burn patients, it was truly overwhelming to see so many extensive burns with complex contractures; many patients had not been properly treated in years. Since the folks in the mountains have no electricity, it was no surprise that most of their burns were obtained from cooking stoves that exploded.
