Jiahui Li, one of coordinator translators, works as hard as anybody on the trip. I would argue that Jiahui and Bill Chiang (the other coordinator translator) have the hardest job on the trip because they are never done. The doctors and nurses work hard during the day, but they are done by 7:00 PM. Jiahue and Bill, however, help us order dinner, make sure that the team has everything we need, deals with the hotel, changes money, organizes the weekend activities, deals with the local volunteers, etc. The list could go on and on.
Here Jiahui is entering patient information into what she calls "The Palm". Palm, Inc. generously donated new Zire handheld devices to Interplast, and we are using them here in Chongqing, China and on all of the rest of our volunteer surgical team trips. By allowing us to input patient data into the Zires, we can quickly and efficiently store and manage the data for our records.
