This is Hao taking advantage of the activity books provided by the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) before his surgery. Depending on the surgery, the children might have to spend a couple of nights in the hospital. If they stay on the longer side of the range, it means that there is significant swelling, soreness, or some other side effect that needs monitoring by the doctors. So to make their stay a little bit more pleasant we give out these little books and crayons. Also, the kids can't eat or drink for hours before their surgery, so the drawing helps distract them from the hunger. McDonald's is big in China, so some of the kids have heard of McDonald's, even though there might not be one in their hometown.
